When the railroad bridge was completed in 1888 it was the longest bridge in the world. Now, 121 years later, at 6767 feet long, Walkway Over the Hudson is currently the longest pedestrian bridge in the world, just a little over 1.25 miles (2 kilometers) end to end. The center of the bridge is 212 feet (64.6 meters) above the Hudson River; that's about a seven second drop. It's a magical place. These pictures document a small portion of the bridge work I saw over the course of a year, October 13, 2008 to October 3, 2009. Many many thanks to Harrison and Burrowes, Bridge Constructors; and the workers who helped me out there. You're all fantastic!
